Local teams return to the ice after holiday break

Winter finally decided to make an appearance as the various college teams continued their slow return to campus and competition.

Weather was better in the northern parts of the state, although the same can't be said for the results at the rink.  The Fighting Irish (NCAA D1) remain winless in 2019, dropping a pair to the Minnesota Gophers 5-1 and 2-1.

The Thunder storm (NCAA D3 Men) rolled in early with a 5-1 victory over Aurora.  Just as the snow did, however, Trine tapered as the weekend went on, falling 4-1 to Lake Forest.  The NCAA D3 Women dropped a tough one, losing 2-1 in overtime to NCHA conference leading Adrian.

The Hoosiers (ACHA M2) continued their resurgence with a 4-1 win over Northern Illinois, but Mother Nature had other plans for game 2.  Nothing got in the way of the Trine Thunder (ACHA M2) as they steamrolled Oakland in a pair 8-0 and 8-2.

Indiana was the only ACHA M3 team to come out on top this weekend, thumping host Vanderbilt 13-1.  Weather alter the schedule of the Lawrence Tech Invitational, cutting the number of teams to 6.  Notre Dame fell to the hosts 5-2, and other results from the tourney are still unavailable.  Indiana Tech was soundly routed by North #6 Michigan State, going scoreless on the weekend 11-0, 6-0.  Trine faired much better but succumbed to Geogia Tech in OT 4-3.  The Thunder's contest with Kennesaw State was cancelled.

Look for the calendar to start filling back up again as the remaining teams start their second half over the next couple of weekends.
