Irish Hockey Signs Five During Early Signing Period

Notre Dame inked three forwards, a defenseman and a goaltender

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Notre Dame hockey team has signed Ryan Bischel, Ryan Carmichael, Trevor Janicke, Jesse Lansdell and Grant Silianoff to national letters of intent for the early signing period, according to an announcement made by Notre Dame head coach Jeff Jackson.

The Ryan Bischel File

  • Position: Goaltender
  • Height: 6-2
  • Current Team: Fargo Force (USHL)
  • Hometown: Medina, Minnesota

Bischel is currently in his third season with the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League. The Medina, Minnesota, native has appeared in 47 regular-season games between the pipes for the Force since the 2016-17 season and has earned 25 wins while making 1,221 saves. A 2018 Clark Cup Champion with the Force, Bischel played three high-school seasons for Benilde-St. Margaret's School before joining Fargo. He also competed for the 2017 U.S. Junior Select Team at the World Junior A Challenge.

The Ryan Carmichael File

  • Position: Defenseman
  • Height: 6-2
  • Current Team: Fargo Force (USHL)
  • Hometown: Greenwich, Connecticut

Carmichael is skating in his first USHL campaign with Fargo after playing four seasons for the Brunswick School in Greenwich, Connecticut. The 6-2 defender posted eight goals and 22 assists for the Brunswick School in 2017-18, in addition five points (3-2-5) in 17 contests for the U18 Mid-Fairfield Rangers.

The Jesse Lansdell File

  • Position: Forward
  • Height: 5-11.
  • Current Team: Vernon Vipers (BCHL)
  • Hometown: Surrey, British Columbia

Lansdell is in his third season with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League. The forward is coming off of a career year in 2017-18, when he netted 17 goals and added 33 assists in 53 games. In his BCHL career, which also includes three seasons with the Chilliwack Chiefs (2014-17), Lansdell has totaled 48 goals and 102 assists in 225 contests. 

The Trevor Janicke File

  • Position: Forward
  • Height: 5-10
  • Current Team: Central Illinois Flying Aces (USHL)
  • Hometown: Maple Grove, Minnesota

Janicke is skating in his first season for the Central Illinois Flying Aces of the USHL after two years with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Michigan. In 2017-18, Janicke collected 18 points (10G, 8 A) in 62 contests for the U.S. National Under-18 Team and helped Team USA earn a silver medal in the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Men's World Championship. He also helped guide the red, white and blue to a title at the 2017 Under-17 World Challenge and is set to represent his country again next month at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge. Janicke was just given a "C" grade in the latest 2018-19 NHL Central Scouting rankings.  His father, Curtis, played four seasons with the Irish from 1989-1993, totaling 144 points (46-98-144) in 125 games played.

The Grant Silianoff File

  • Position: Forward
  • Height: 5-11
  • Current Team: Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL)
  • Hometown: Edina, Minnesota


Silianoff is in his first full season with Cedar Rapids of the USHL after skating four years at Shattuck-St.Mary's in Faribault, Minnesota. Silianoff, who will follow in a long line of Edina natives to play for the Irish, notched 67 points (35G, 32A) in 55 games for Shattuck in 2017-18 en route to being named to the High School All-USA Hockey Second Team. Silianoff also represented Team USA last August at the 2018 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup and is set to wear the red, white and blue again next month at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge. Silianoff was just given a "C" grade in the latest 2018-19 NHL Central Scouting rankings.
