Irish Picked 3rd In Preseason Poll

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- University of Notre Dame junior goaltender Cale Morris has been named to the Big Ten's Preseason Watch List, the conference announced on Monday morning (Sept. 24).

The 2017-18 Big Ten Player of the Year, Morris was one of six unanimous selections on the 15-player watch list. In addition, Notre Dame was picked to finish third in the league standings. Voting for the watch list and team standings was conducted by the league's head coaches.

Last season Morris, who was a 2018 First Team (West) CCM/AHCA All-American, helped lead the Irish to the Big Ten regular season and tournament championships. The Irish then went on to make a second consecutive Frozen Four appearance and defeated conference foe Michigan in the national semifinals to reach the NCAA championship game for the second time in program history.

Morris' breakout season came after he played just one period in the Notre Dame net as a freshman. As a sophomore, he posted a 1.94 and a .944 save percentage to go along with a 27-8-1 record en route to claiming the Mike Richter Award as the nation's top goaltender. He was also a Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist, the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year, the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player and a First Team All-Big Ten selection.

The Irish open the 2018-19 season with a home exhibition game versus the USNTDP at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7. Notre Dame then heads to Erie, Pennsylvania for the 2018 Ice Breaker Tournament (Oct. 12-13). For tickets please contact the Murnane Family Ticket Office by calling 833-ND-IRISH or click here.
