Morris Claims Seventh Weekly B1G Honor

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Sophomore goaltender Cale Morris has been named the Big Ten’s Third Star of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday (Jan. 30).

This past weekend (Jan. 26-27), Morris helped lead the Irish to a weekend split at No. 13/14 Minnesota, holding the Gopher offense to just one goal in each game including a 1-0 overtime loss and a 4-1 game two victory. For the weekend, Morris was 1-1-0 with a 0.97 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage. His win on Saturday night was his NCAA-leading 19th of the season.

On the season, Morris is 19-3-0 with a 1.61 goals-against average and a NCAA-leading .952 save percentage. A Hobey Baker candidate, he also has four shutouts on the season and has totaled 709 saves, which ranks sixth in the country.

Notre Dame moved to No. 2 in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week after dropping a 1-0 decision in overtime at Minnesota and then bouncing back with a 4-1 win. Cornell, which beat Harvard and Dartmouth over the weekend, moved to No. 1.

This weekend, Notre Dame will play a road series on Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3 at No. 17 Penn State. Puck drop for game one is slated for 6:30 p.m. and it will be televised by the Big Ten Network, while game two will begin at 4 p.m.
