Sophomore goaltender Cale Morris led the Irish to a weekend sweep of Penn State

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame goaltender Cale Morris was named the Big Ten’s First Star of the Week the conference announced on Tuesday morning (Nov. 14).

Morris led the Irish to a weekend home sweep of Penn State. He started both games and played all 120:00 minutes, posting a 2-0-0 record to go along with a 1.50 goals-against average and an impressive .961 save percentage.

In game one of the series (Nov. 10), Morris totaled a career-high 40 saves. Then in Notre Dame's 1-0 win in game two (Nov. 11), Morris turned aside all 33 shots he faced to post his first career shutout as he became the first goaltender to blank Penn State this season.

It marks the second consecutive weekly Big Ten award for Morris, who is now 7-1-0 on the year with a .935 save percentage and a 2.05 goals against average. His .935 save percentage ranks seventh in the country and first in the Big Ten.

Morris and the fourth-ranked Fighting Irish close out their non-conference schedule with a two-game series at RPI this weekend (Nov. 17-18). Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET.
