INHockey.net announces major award for high school hockey players

INHockey.net is happy to announce the Indiana State Mr. & Miss Hockey Award, a new yearly award given to the top male and female high school aged hockey players in the state.  Coaches from across Indiana will nominate players to the pre-season watch list, with the race for the title kicking off in October.  The Watch List will be updated on the INHockey.net website throughout the season.  The top 10 finalists will be identified prior to the league tournaments, and will be invited to a year end banquet in March following the state tournament, where the official Mr. Hockey & Miss. Hockey titles will be awarded.

Award Criteria

While a large part of the Mr. & Miss Hockey awards is based on performance, there are a few other key factors that go into the decision making process and will influence the final award recipients.

  • Academics - nominees must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher in order to be eligible for the award.
  • Leadership - while nominees don't necessarily need to wear the 'C' or the 'A,' demonstration of leadership skills on and off the ice are an important factor in the award consideration.
  • Hoosier Spirit - award recipients will have demonstrated the Hoosier Spirit and social maturity by their volunteerism or involvement in extra-curricular pursuits (4H, National Honors Society, Math Team, Science Bowl, toy drives, etc.)
  • Hockey Performance - Goals, assist, save percentages, penalty minutes (or lack thereof) and general success on the ice.
Award Time Frame

The Indiana State Mr. & Miss Hockey award evaluation period runs from October through February.  The Watch List will be announced in late September and progress will be updated regularly throughout the season on INHockey.net.  Finalists will be identified prior to the start of league tournaments.  Awards will be given in March at the Indiana State Mr. & Miss Hockey Awards Banquet.

INHockey.net and its partners are proud to be able to offer this award and highlight the very best that Indiana has to offer in the way of homegrown hockey players.  The Indiana State Mr. & Miss Hockey Award is another important step in not only growing the game, but growing our youth.
