Komets to retire Terry McDougall's #19

Ceremony planned for Jan. 7 game vs. Quad City

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets announced Tuesday that the number 19, in honor of Fort Wayne legend Terry McDougall, will be retired in a ceremony on Jan. 7 when the Komets host the Quad City Mallards at 7:30pm.

McDougall skated seven consecutive seasons with the Komets from 1975-76 to 1981-82 when Fort Wayne was a member of the original International Hockey League.  In his first season McDougall led the Komets with 53 assists and 88 points and followed by leading the Komets in 1976-77 with 66 assists and 102 points.  

The legendary center also led the Komets in 1978-79 with career highs of 57 goals, 82 assists and 139 points to become the IHL's point-scoring champion that year.  His 139 points tied Len Thornson's Fort Wayne record for most points in a season.  In 1978-79 McDougall also was voted the IHL Most Valuable Player of the year.

McDougall completed his Fort Wayne career in 1981-82 skating 41 games before being traded to Flint where he finished his career appearing in three seasons with the Generals from 1981-82 to 1983-84.

During McDougall's Fort Wayne career he logged totals of 249 goals, 395 assists for 644 points in 507 regular season games.  The Trail, British Columbia native added 29 goals, 66 assists and 95 points in 69 playoff games for all-time Fort Wayne career totals of 278 goals, 461 assists and 739 points in 576 games.

McDougall set many Komet playoff records during his Fort Wayne career including most points in a single playoff season (25, 1979), most points in a series (13, 1979 vs Grand Rapids), most points in a playoff game (5 on March 30, 1976 vs Toledo, tied with seven other players), and most assists in a playoff season (18, 1979).  McDougall also reached 30 goals in a regular season six times and reached 50 goals once, during the 1978-79 campaign.

McDougall's number 19 will become the 16th number to be retired in Fort Wayne's 65-year history.  Numbers previously retired are as follows:  1- Chuck Adamson, 2- Guy Dupuis, 5- Terry Pembroke, 6- Lionel Repka, 11- Len Thornson, 12- Reggie Primeau, 16- Eddie Long, 18- Rob Laird, 26- Colin Chin, 30- Robbie Irons, 33- Nick Boucher, 40- Bob Chase, 58- Ken Ullyot, 59- Colin Lister, and 77- Steve Fletcher.
