Komets collect three points for week four
On the road for four games in five nights in heartland
Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets gained three points in three games for week four of 2016-17 and improved to 5-2-1 for 11 points after eight games.
Wednesday the Komets started the week with a 4-3 setback at Cincinnati. Garrett Thompson, Bobby Shea and Gabriel Desjardins each scored for Fort Wayne. Brent Tate earned his first pro point with an assist on Desjardins' marker. Goaltender Eric Hartzell suffered his second loss of the season making 20 saves on 24 shots. The Komets pushed their successful penalty kill streak to 19 straight kills before having it snapped on the second penalty kill of the game. It was the first of five trips to Cincinnati and the first of eight meetings this year overall.

Friday the Komets burned the visiting Indy Fuel 4-0 to take a 1-0 series lead over the intrastate rival with eight meetings remaining. A Fort Wayne crowd of 7,816 witnessed the Komets' second shutout of the year. Hartzell earned his sixth pro shutout stopping 31 shots. Thompson netted the game winner followed with goals by Trevor Cheek, Gabriel Beaupre and Shawn Szydlowski. Cheek added an assist on each of the other three goals for a four-point night in his first game of the year since returning from Rochester of the AHL.

Sunday the Komets earned a road point, falling 5-4 in their first overtime of the year at Brampton. Szydlowski notched his third tally of the year while Kyle Thomas scored a pair to finish the week leading the Komets with four goals (tied with Thompson) and nine points. Mason Baptista scored his second goal of the season, tying the game at 4-4 and sending it into the extra session. Cheek continued his scoring dishing two assists in the match. Hartzell suffered the overtime loss in the Fort Wayne net making 26 saves on 31 shots in his 5th straight appearance and third straight start. The Komets ran their new penalty kill streak up to nine straight kills after stopping all three of the Beast's power plays.

The week ahead-- The Komets are on the road for week five of 2016-17, playing four games in five nights in the heartland of America against Western Conference rivals. Wednesday the Komets skate at Tulsa at 8:05pm ET and then travel to Missouri for a pair of back-to-back games Friday, at 8:35pm ET and Saturday at 8:05pm ET. The Komets cap the week with a 5:05pm ET faceoff at Wichita Sunday. It's the only visits of the season to Tulsa, Missouri and Wichita.
Wednesday, Nov. 9, Komets (5-2-1, 11 points) at Tulsa Oilers (9-2-0, 18 points), 8:05pm ET-- The Komets begin their only trip of the season to Tulsa, Missouri and Wichita with an 8:05pm ET faceoff at Tulsa Wednesday. The last time the Komets skated at the BOK Center (17,096) at Tulsa was Feb. 21, 2012 in a 2-1 CHL overtime win. The last meeting was a 2-1 win in Fort Wayne last season when Tulsa visited on Feb. 27 for the only meeting of the year and the only meeting as ECHL rivals. Overall, counting CHL games, the Komets are 3-1-0 against the Oilers all-time. Tulsa leads the ECHL with nine wins and 18 points. The Oilers are 3-2-0 in their last five outings after opening the season with a a six-game win streak.
Friday, Nov. 11, 8:35pm ET and Saturday, Nov. 12, 8:05pm ET, Komets at Missouri Mavericks (3-5-1, 7 points)-- Friday's game is the first of three meetings this year against the Mavs including Saturday night's tilt at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena (5,800) in Independence, Missouri. Last year the Komets split a pair of meetings in Fort Wayne for a 1-1-0 season series record. The last time the Komets traveled to Missouri was for a 4-3 overtime loss to the old CHL rival Mavericks on Jan. 15, 2012. The Komets are 5-4-1 all-time against Missouri combining CHL and ECHL meetings since 2010-11. The Mavericks hold sixth place in the Mountain Division, trailing first-place Utah by five points after nine games. The Mavs are 2-2-1 in their last five games and are idle until Fort Wayne visits for a pair of games Friday and Saturday.
Sunday, Nov. 13, Komets at Wichita Thunder (4-2-0, 8 points)-- The Komets and Thunder each share a home date this year for the only two meetings of the season. The last time Fort Wayne made a trip to Wichita was in the old CHL, a 3-2 overtime loss on March 4, 2012. After posting a 2-2-1 CHL record against Wichita, Sunday's match will be the first ECHL meeting between the Komets and the Thunder. Wichita will make their first appearance in Fort Wayne as an ECHL teamFeb. 25. The Thunder have only played six games to date after splitting a two-game home stand against Utah this past weekend and will skate a home-and-home series against Tulsa Friday and Saturday before hosting the Komets Sunday at the INTURST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.

After this week's tour through the heartland, the Komets will return home to host Quad City in the next Fort Wayne home game Friday, Nov. 18 at 8pm on Sweetwater Ice at the Memorial Coliseum.
